Ocupa la región de Veneto en el noreste de Italia, es una de las denominaciones más utilizadas en el país. Cubre una amplia gama de estilos de vino de Veneto: se podría decir que es la sala de máquinas de la industria del vino de Italia. Cada año, bajo este título, se produce y se vende un número considerable de vinos tintos, blancos y rosados. Dada la región de origen, los vinos Veneto IGT se basan mayoritariamente en variedades como Pinot Grigio, la Garganega y Corvina, las variedades de uva tradicionales y más utilizadas de la región de Veneto. Las reglas relativamente liberales que rigen la producción de vinos IGT significan que también se utilizan varias uvas no autóctonas, especialmente las variedades de Burdeos Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet Franc , Carménère y Merlot. En términos de geografía, cultura y estilos de vino, Veneto representa una transición entre el extremo alpino, germano-eslavo de Italia y las tierras más cálidas, más secas y más romanas del sur. Aunque es un poco más pequeño que las otras importantes regiones productoras de vino de Italia como Piamonte, Toscana, Lombardía, Apulia y Sicilia, cada añada produce más vino que cualquiera de estas otras regiones. Si bien Sicilia y Puglia en el sur, fueron hace años las principales fuentes de vino italiano, en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, comenzó ser más importante la zona de Véneto. En la década de 1990, el vino del sur de Italia languideció en un mundo cada vez más competitivo y exigente, pero los administradores y productores de Veneto vigilaron de cerca el mercado internacional del vino, mejorando su juego con vinos como Valpolicella , Amarone , Soave y Prosecco . El título Veneto IGT se introdujo en 1995, para brindar un mayor grado de libertad en la elaboración del vino y para permitir a los productores de la región mantenerse al día con las demandas en constante evolución del consumidor internacional de vino.
Los vinos y el clima.
La región del Véneto se puede dividir aproximadamente en tres áreas geográficas, distinguidas por su topografía y geología. En el noroeste, las estribaciones de los Alpes descienden a lo largo del borde oriental del lago de Garda, su camino reflejado por el río Adige a medida que desciende desde las alturas del Alto Adige. Aquí, el clima es más fresco, con influencia alpina, los blancos frescos y crujientes se elaboran bajo los títulos de Bianco di Custoza y Garda, mientras que el refrescante y modesto Bardolino de las orillas del lago de Garda defiende los rojos más claros de Veneto. Justo al este del lago y al norte de Verona, se encuentra Valpolicella y su subregión Valpantena; el legendario "Valle de muchas bodegas", donde se producen 500.000 hectolitros de vino tinto afrutado cada año. En términos de volumen de producción, Valpolicella es el único DOC que rivaliza con el famoso Chianti de Toscana. Más allá de eso, Gambellara sirve como una extensión oriental de Soave, tanto geográfica como paisajísticamente. Garganega y Trebbiano son las variedades clave de uva para vino blanco en esta área. En el centro de Véneto, alrededor de Vicenza y Padua, se encuentran Colli Berici, Colli Euganei y Breganze . Aunque las llanuras debajo de estas colinas producen grandes cantidades de vino, solo los vinos de mayor calidad, de zonas más elevadas, han obtenido el estatus de DOC. Variedades internacionales como Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet Franc , Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero aquí) e incluso Carmenere han demostrado tener éxito aquí, al igual que Pinot Grigio y Tocai Friulano, el buque insignia del norte de Italia. En el extremo noreste de la región, a ambos lados del río Piave, que tiene su propio Piave DOC que cubre la tierra entre Conegliano y la costa, reina el brillante Prosecco.
