La familia Russet empezó a elaborarla a principios del siglo XX con ingredientes que continúan siendo secretos tras cinco generaciones, aunque sí se conoce el uso de nuez verde, nuez moscada, canela, clavo, azúcar y aguardiente. De color ámbar y caramelo, tiene aromas de nueces y hierbas aromáticas, y es dulce y melosa en boca. Un aperitivo y digestivo que suele tomarse frío y que resulta ideal para acompañar con todo tipo de postres.
