Fundada en 1973 por un grupo de empresarios amigos entre sí, que conformaban una sociedad gastronómica, pasando a pertenece al Grupo González Byass desde 1982. El nombre de la bodega procede de los berones, un pueblo guerrero celta que habitó en la rioja durante el siglo III a.C. Una bodega con una filosofía basada en reunir lo mejor de la tradición y la modernidad. Una importante inversión en I+D, respeto por el medio ambiente, y la continua renovación del parque de barricas son otras de sus características. Matías Calleja, con más de 30 años de experiencia, es el director técnico de la bodega. Beronia elabora diferentes gamas: la Gama Clásica, compuesta por blanco, rosado, Crianza, Reserva y Gran Reserva; la Gama Varietales, donde encontramos el único reserva de Rioja elaborado con mazuelo; la Gama Premium, con el Viñas Viejas, Reserva Selección de 198 barricas, y III a.c.; además de un vino ecológico. Beronia controla 850 hectáreas de viñedo situados a menos de 10 km alrededor de la bodega, en la subzona de Rioja Alta.

Viñedos.

La bodega se encuentra en la localidad de Ollauri, dentro de la subzona de la Rioja Alta, y alrededor de ella se sitúan las 25 hectáreas de viñedo con las que cuenta la propiedad. El resto de uvas con las que elaboran sus vinos proceden de 870 hectáreas extra situadas en un radio de 10 kilómetros, de las cuales 50 hectáreas tienen más de 60 años. La bodega trabaja con más de 200 viticultores, que son los que les proveen mediante acuerdos alcanzados con ellos a largo plazo. La cooperación con estos agricultores es constante, y sus viñedos han sido especialmente seleccionados por Beronia por su buena ubicación. La edad media de los viñedos de Beronia es de 30 años, aunque cuenta con cepas prefiloxéricas de más de 100 años y también con viñas muy jóvenes, plantadas en la primavera de 2011. Todos estos viñedos se trabajan con técnicas de viticultura sostenible, e incluso algunos de los viñedos de la casa están calificados como ecológicos. El 85% de los viñedos de Beronia están plantados con la uva reina de la D.O.Ca., la Tempranillo, aunque también cuentan con viñedos de Graciano, Mazuelo, Garnacha y Viura. Los rendimientos máximos de estas viñas son de 6.500 kilogramos por hectárea para las variedades tintas y de 9.000 kg/ha para las blancas. El “estilo Beronia” se caracteriza por las largas crianzas de sus vinos, especialmente de sus tintos, que representan el 95% de la producción de la bodega. Esta vocación se plasma en una nave de crianza compuesta por casi 30.000 barricas que se trasiegan cada 4 meses. Matías Calleja, enólogo y director técnico de Beronia, es el encargado de incorporar ese estilo característico a los vinos de la casa.
