Viña Lanciano, gracias a su peculiar ubicación alrededor de un meandro del río Ebro, es un enclave único no solo para el cultivo de la vid, sino también para la coexistencia de multitud de aves, mamíferos, reptiles, anfibios y variedades de flora de ribera de río, ya que el río lo rodea casi al completo. Al sur, nuestro viñedo limita con el monte El Rincón, que propicia un microclima único en esta finca al estar ligeramente elevado. La práctica activa de la viticultura sostenible fomenta las autodefensas de la vid y favorece un microclima de los racimos de buena aireación y luminosidad en nuestro viñedo. De esta manera, reducimos la erosión del suelo y mejoramos su fertilidad, disminuimos la contaminación ambiental, con prácticas principalmente manuales, controlamos el uso del agua y favorecemos que flora y fauna encuentren el equilibrio en nuestro viñedo. Para ello, no utilizamos ningún tipo de herbicida químico.
Sostenibilidad.
- Viticultura manual.
Antes del inicio del ciclo vegetativo, con la poda de invierno recuperamos los criterios tradicionales de respeto por la planta, con cortes con madera de protección, y aplicamos cicatrizantes en las heridas, para protegerlas de enfermedades. Nuestro equipo de campo se encarga del manejo de la vegetación en verde de forma manual, en labores como la espergura, desniete, despunte, deshojado, aclareo y, por supuesto, el momento final, el de la vendimia, que la llevamos a cabo por separado, en función de la parcela y la variedad, y siempre y únicamente a mano.
- Control y seguimiento.
Además de nuestra estación climática, nos ayudamos de imágenes aéreas y puntos de control de humedad en el viñedo. Hace más de 5 años implantamos 15 puntos de seguimiento detallado para controlar el viñedo y elaborar un histórico de nuestra finca, diferenciado por parcelas. Nos servimos de esta información para tomar las decisiones oportunas a lo largo de todo el ciclo vegetativo, como, por ejemplo, la poda, las operaciones en verde, el abonado, la gestión razonada del agua en el viñedo, con la que buscamos que haya un ligero estrés hídrico.
- Prevención de plagas.
Desde la poda tratamos de ayudar a la vid a fortalecerse y a ser menos vulnerable. Aun así, hay tres tipos de plagas que pueden afectar seriamente a nuestro viñedo. Desde hace una década, para evitar la temida polilla del racimo empleamos métodos biológicos de confusión sexual con feromonas, con un innovador sistema de difusión que no deja residuos en el viñedo. Los depredadores naturales que viven en Viña Lanciano, ácaros, crisópidos, chinches y mariquitas, nos ayudan a acabar con la araña amarilla. Y en el caso el mosquito verde, una amenaza creciente por el cambio climático, contamos con los chinches y otros parasitoides de huevos presentes en nuestra finca.
Bodega.
Nuestra nave de crianza alberga un sistema único y totalmente automatizado de apilado, trasiega y climatización en el mundo, que nos permite trabajar con un amplio abanico de tipos de roble. Barricas de roble francés, americano, ruso, húngaro, español y mixto (duelas de roble americano y fondos de roble francés) con diferentes tipos de tostado, que elegimos y renovamos periódicamente. Criamos cada variedad por separado de forma personalizada; para ello, formamos pirámides de barricas según la parcela de las que proceden con el fin de extraer su máximo potencial.
Crianza en diferentes tipos de roble.
En LAN, de entre los diferentes tipos de roble, seleccionamos los más adecuados para la crianza de cada uno de nuestros vinos. Escogemos maderas que aportan signos de identidad únicos y reconocibles a nuestra gama.
· Roble francés de los distintos bosques del centro de Francia (Allier, Tronçais, Jupille, Blois). Aporta una gran complejidad aromática con suaves aromas especiados (clavo, canela), toques mentolados, ahumados y cacaos. Tiene una alta carga tánica, que confiere una buena estructura en boca.
· Roble americano procedente de Ohio y Missouri, de los bosques en los Apalaches. Aporta aromas intensos de vainilla, coco y plantas aromáticas.
· Roble ruso del Cáucaso y la República de Adigueya. Tiene matices similares al roble francés, aunque es menos odorante y respeta los aromas primarios de la materia prima.
· Roble húngaro con matices muy similares a los del roble francés. En la variedad tempranillo aporta toques ligeramente más lácteos.
· Roble español. Tiene un aporte alto de polifenoles, así como de aromas de vainilla, caramelo, balsámicos, almendra y clavo. Nuestra última incorporación a una crianza en constante innovación.
