El AOC Pauillac se encuentra en la margen izquierda del Gironda y reúne condiciones climáticas y geológicas excepcionales, lo que le permite producir vinos muy buenos. Capital del vitícola de Médoc, la ciudad portuaria de Pauillac dio su nombre a la denominación. El AOC puede presumir de tener tres vinos en los primeros cinco Grands Crus Classés de 1855: Lafite Rothschild , Latour y Mouton Rothschild . En sus 1.200 hectáreas de viñedos, Pauillac produce 54.000 hl de vinos tintos cada año. Tenga en cuenta que Mouton-Rothschild también produce un vino blanco. La historia.
Los viñedos originarios en Pauillac se plantaron en la segunda mitad del siglo XIII. Sin embargo, en aquellos primeros días, los viñedos estaban lejos y muy pocos en el casco urbano. Los cereales y otros cultivos agrícolas dominaban la región en ese momento. Se tardó tiempo, hasta finales de 1500 y luego en el siglo XVII, antes de que comenzaran a plantar grandes cantidades de viñedos. Después de que los holandeses ayudasen a drenar los pantanos, el cultivo de los viñedos de Pauillac continuó hasta bien entrado el siglo XVIII.
