Brunello di Montalcino es un vino tinto DOCG italiano producido en los viñedos que rodean la ciudad de Montalcino, en la provincia de Siena, ubicada a unos 80 km al sur de Florencia, en la región vinícola de la Toscana. Brunello, un diminutivo de Bruno ("marrón"), es el nombre que se le dio localmente a lo que se creía que era una variedad de uva individual cultivada en Montalcino. En 1879, la Comisión de Anfelografía de la Provincia de Siena determinó, después de unos años de experimentos controlados, que Sangiovese y Brunello eran la misma variedad de uva, y que la primera debería ser su nombre designado. El Brunello di Montalcino se obtiene a partir de uvas de la única variedad de vid Sangiovese, en en Montalcino se conoce como "Brunello". No se permite sacar al mercado vinos Brunello de Montalcino con contenidos de alcohol inferiores al 12,5%, aunque a menudo alcanza los 13,5%.
El Brunello di Montalcino es un vino clásico para acompañar a la bistecca alla fiorentina, reina de la cocina toscana y, en general, a las carnes rojas, los asados, la caza de pluma y la caza de pelo, en particular el jabalí. Pero también se combina perfectamente con el pichón, uno de los platos principales de la cocina de la tierra. Excelente también con trufas, setas y quesos curados. También está indicado como "vino de meditación", sobre todo en botellas de grandes añadas, bien conservadas y en pleno apogeo de su evolución cualitativa.
