La Corvina es una variedad de uva tinta originaria del norte de Italia, que se cultiva principalmente en la región italiana del Veneto. También es conocida como Corvina Veronese o Cruina, y en Europa como Cassabria, corvina veronese o cruina. En el Véneto la corvina es confundida de forma frecuente con la corvinone, una uva tinta utilizada generalmente en la producción del vino de uvas secas. A lo largo de un buen tiempo, la corvinone se ha considerado un clon de la corvina, pero el perfil de ADN ha probado que son dos variedades de uvas diferentes. En 2005, un estudio genético demostró que la corvina era familiar de la uva rondidella del Véneto.
Las cepas de corvina producen uvas de pequeño tamaño, con bajos niveles de taninos y poco color, pero tienen hollejos gruesos que son para el secado y protegen a la uva de la podredumbre. Es una uva de maduración tardía, propensa a dar producciones elevadas que pueden pueden afectar reduciendo la calidad del vino. Durante el desarrollo de la cepa se observa que los primeros brotes no generan frutos. Las plantas precisan de pérgolas para desarrollar tallos largos y generar más brotes. Normalmente se junta con otras uvas para que el vino adquiera el color que le falta.
La zona principal donde podemos encontrar esta uva es sobre todo en la región del Veneto. Aunque en Italia es importante, no ha sido muy exportada, pudiendo encontrarse en Australia y en Argentina, donde se ha comenzado a experimentar en los últimos años con esta uva, utilizando proporciones de Malbec para darle el color.
La corvina se usa con otras variedades para crear los vinos tintos regionales de Bardolino y Valpolicella, que tienen un suave sabor afrutado con notas de almendra. Estas mezclas incluyen a las variedades rondinella y molinara (y rossignola para el vino posterior). También es usada para la producción de amarone y recioto. La corvina produce vinos de cuerpo ligero o medio con un luminoso color carmesí. Las uvas tienen mucha acidez y pueden producir vinos con notas a tarta y a almendra. Al final deja notas a guinda. En algunas regiones de Valpolicella los productores usan barricas para la crianza para añadir más estructura y complejidad al vino, y por lo general se la usa con otras uvas que son las que le dan el color que le falta a la Corvina. Su bocas es afrutada y suave, dejando notas de almendra. Por lo general con la Corvina se producen vinos de cuerpo medio y una alta acidez.

La variedad rondinella es una uva tinta de origen italiano que crece sobre todo en la región del Véneto, y que se usa en vinos de Valpolicella y Bardolino. Se mezcla a menudo con la corvina, cuyo ADN evidencia que ambas uvas están emparentadas, y con la molinara. La uva tiene sabores más bien neutrales, pero es empleada por los agricultores debido a sus buenos rendimientos. Además de en el norte de Italia, podemos encontrarla en Argentina. Se cree que está relacionada con las uvas garganega y refosco dal peduncolo rosso.
Los racimos de rondinella son entre medianos y grandes, cilíndrico piramidales, bastante compactos, flanqueados por una o dos aletas, a veces con pedúnculos cortos, medianos y poco lignificados. Las uvas son de tamaño mediano, esféricas, piel media cerosa, de color negro muy azulado, con reflejos púrpura y pulpa jugosa. Las cepas son muy resistentes a las enfermedades de la uva y produce uvas que, aunque no tienen necesariamente una elevada cantidad de azúcares, se secan bien para su uso en la producción del vino de pasas y de mezclas de recioto.
Los vinos de esta variedad son afrutados, con un hermoso color rojo rubí brillante, muy poco tánico, moderadamente rico en alcohol y casi siempre con una buena acidez. Tiene aromas de almendra amarga, cereza, fresa y cereza. El famoso Amarone italiano se produce después de dejar secar las uvas en bastidores o en esteras de paja, mezclándose, en la mayoría de los casos, con otras variedades de uva como la corvina y la corvinona.
